Reassurance

11 weeks into Term 1 I can honestly say I have had a lot of times where I haven't felt like I have achieved much with my class so it was reassuring to hear today from another teacher that my class has come a long way.

We have worked hard on social skills and the way that we should behave at school. And while I didn't think that there had been much improvement after hearing it from someone else it made it easier for me to step back and reflect on how much has changed.

As a result I am going to work on my own reflection practices and focus more on the little achievements that we have made as a class rather than waiting for perfection. I feel that looking at it this way will make me more positive and confident in what I am doing and that will then impact on the overall environment of the classroom.

  1. To Lorelei,
I think we do have step back and take note of the small gems as so often it is too easy to get bogged down by the day not going how you had planned or getting frustrated by particular students spoiling it for the rest of the class.
Perfection is a tough thing to achieve and to ask 20 odd kids to achieve it together is an even tougher ask.
Keep looking for the positive :-) and I am sure it will come with some welcomed surprise great days ahead.

  2. Hi Lorelei
Yes your class certainly has come a long way and this is through your hard work, dedication and determination to achieve the little things. Social skills development is an essential aspect that deserves dedicated teaching time. I am heartened by the fact that you do spend time on this. Hopefully, this is the foundation laying for much progress as the year unfolds. Keep up the hard work, and you will be rewarded!
